Creative Arts

At Berkhampstead, the creative arts lie at the heart of school life, inspiring a love of self-expression from the very earliest years.

MUSIC & PERFORMING ARTS

Music and performance flourish across the school. From Pre-Prep music groups to at least nine Prep School ensembles, every child can experience the joy of making music together. From Year 3, pupils can take private lessons in over 13 instruments with our visiting music teachers.

Performance is central to school life; recitals, nativities, carol services, and our annual Spring Concerts at Cheltenham Town Hall give pupils plenty of opportunities to shine. Drama is equally valued, with our LAMDA-trained drama teacher supporting acting, storytelling, and public speaking and singing. Many pupils go on to achieve music and drama scholarships to senior schools, reflecting the strength of our creative arts provision.

ART

From Kindergarten, children are encouraged to explore ideas freely and develop their own creative voice. Our art rooms provide the perfect space to experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques. From Year 3, our specialist art teacher ensures skills and artistic expression are honed with depth and expertise.

Pupils experience a rich and varied curriculum, including both two- and three-dimensional work. Year 6 enjoy annual visiting artist workshops, with recent sessions in willow sculpture, mosaic, and screen printing. Every child’s creativity is celebrated in our own Summer Art Exhibition, and our pupils also shine annually at the Malvern St James Primary School Art Exhibition. Many of our pupils go on to earn art scholarships to senior schools, reflecting both their talent and our specialist teaching.
